The German War of Extermination in the East: Poland and the Soviet Union
The German invasion of Poland on 1 September 1939 can be interpreted as a prelude to
the war of extermination against the Soviet Union that began on 22 June 1941.
Experiences gained on Polish territory served as a template for Germany to prepare for
the attack of the Soviet Union. How did the radicalization of violence come about?
